About This Project

The Executive Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government, Hon. Muhammad Gambo Zion, earlier today attended the commissioning ceremony of the newly established Eye Treatment Department at Shifa Hospital, Unguwan Kanawa, where he served as the Guest of Honour. The facility, developed in partnership between Shifa Hospital and the Kaduna North Local Government, is part of an ongoing medical outreach aimed at providing eye examinations and surgical procedures to residents, with over 200 beneficiaries expected to receive treatment.

The new department is designed to deliver specialized eye care services, reduce the strain on existing health centres, and ensure that patients within the LGA have greater access to timely and affordable medical attention.

Impact Assessment:
This intervention is poised to significantly improve eye-health outcomes in Kaduna North, particularly for vulnerable groups who often lack access to specialized medical services. By supporting surgeries and treatments for more than 200 beneficiaries, the programme reduces preventable blindness, enhances quality of life, and enables many residents to regain productivity in their daily activities. The establishment of the department also strengthens the local health system by expanding service delivery capacity and fostering long-term partnerships between government and private healthcare providers.
